Umbria is an easy 2 hour drive from Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and 2 hours north to Florence, a Medieval mecca and 2 hours to either the Adriatic Coast or to the Tuscan Maremman Coast. This centrally located region, with easy highway access makes day-tripping convenient to some of Umbria’s most desirable destinations including the charming medieval walled towns of Todi, Bevagna and Gubbio. You are a short drive to one of Christianity’s most revered sites, Assisi, the home of Italy’s patron saint, Saint Francis. Other picturesque towns to visit are Spello, Spoleto and the regions capital city of Perugia. Travel along the Strada del Vino Cantico and the Strada del Sagrantino to the wine capital of the region, Montefalco. Stop along the way at any of the numerous vineyards for a tasting or one of the many enoteca in Montefalco for wine and olive oil shopping.
